Monumental Day (Well, for the Allen's at least)...

Salem, Oregon

What we did today had nothing to do with the Archives of the State of Oregon, it's just that PERS (Public Employees Retirement) has an office in that building and we had a meeting today to sign all the papers required for Larry to retire June 30th.
It was a beautiful building and I'm glad we had our appointment in Salem instead of at City Hall in Albany because there might never be another reason to see this building. It was filled with art pieces so I took some photos to share, and to document our day. An important one in our 29 years together.

The desk where we checked in had a beautiful 21 panel fused glass installation behind it depicting a historic photo of traveling Oregon Pioneers.

Heading up to the second floor was this sculpture tucked into the landing 1/2 way up.

At the top of the stairs was this pieced fabric mural. I liked how the 3 pieces across the middle have fabric "photo corners" to make them look like giant postcards.

Redbud tree outside the meeting room window.

After all the papers were signed and notarized, we paused in a gallery near the front entrance as we left. These are the doors leading into the gallery.

The room was filled with one photograph from every county in Oregon (36).

Here is the photo from Linn, the county in which we live. It's of a tractor sitting in a field on Fish Hatchery Road, just a few miles outside Albany.

So, Larry retires June 30, 2011. But goes right back to work full time July 1st until the end of the year. Then starting in 2012 he will work just part-time. The perfect scenario for him!
