Pennies

South Albany High School is having a penny drive for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this month. March 1 through the 12th. So for Casey's birthday yesterday I brought a bag of pennies to donate.
At South they have a separate photo of every graduating class lining the walls in the front hall. While I was there I took some photos of Casey's "Class of 1999 Photo" and wanted to share the giggle with all of you!

Their photo hangs next to the Student Store...

Casey is near the top on the left hand side... ;-)

OK, so maybe you couldn't find him, he's wearing a green stocking cap... :-)

There he is! And while everyone else is smiling for the camera, Casey, Will and Jason are pretending that they see something big that's about to step on them all.... (that's how he explained it when he brought his copy of the picture home back in 1999 and I was like "WHAT??!)

Had a great day yesterday, so many well wishes from friends and family that it made my heart full of joy! Awesome!!!

Love to all,
Florence

Poem by Kylie

My niece Kylie, who is now 15 and is my sister June's daughter, wrote a poem about Casey and she said I could share it with you. So in honor of Casey's 29th birthday tomorrow here is Kylie's poem.

"One night this week, I was thinking about Casey and I sat down and started writing this poem, I hope you enjoy reading it.
Love, Kylie."

It's like your eyes are the sky above, watching over me.
And your arms are the warmth of the air, keeping me safe every single day.
You left so many years ago, I was just a little girl at the time.
But I know you never stopped loving me.
I remember that day as if it were recent, a piece of our family was lost that day.
I didn't really understand why, why everyone was crying and sad.
And some of them were even mad, mad at what had happened to you, like it wasn't your time to die.
But that hasn't stopped you, from being with us as a family.
When your mom, my aunt was sick, I know you were always by her side.
Walking her through it, comforting her when she needed it, protecting her from harms way.
And encouraging her to push through.
Her getting better was a huge result of your love for her and all the time she was in the hospital, you were right there, holding her hand.
Casey, you have never stopped loving us, and with your love inside me, I will always remember you.
It's like your eyes are the sky above, watching over me.
And your arms are the warmth of the air, keeping me safe every single day.
I love you..

Casey and Kylie just before she and her parents moved to Minnesota, 1995.
She was 9 months old. Casey was 14.

Thank you Kylie for a poem I'll cherish forever!
