FINALLY - peaches at my favorite road side stand are ready!!
My brother Paul and I met at Grandpa's Fresh Market this morning to pick peaches. I've been going to this orchard since before 1992. I've kept a notebook of the flyer they would give out each summer with recipes and the dates of when their fruit would be ready, and I would attach my receipt to it. Back in '92 u-pick peaches cost .35 cent per pound and the farm was named Couey's Summer Fruits. The name change soon after Mr. Couey passed away. He is the "Grandpa" in the new name, and now the farm is run by his kids and grandkids.
We walked to the end of the road and turned left, then walked back down in between a couple of rows picking along the way.
Nice morning for picking. Last night at 2:15am I woke up to the flashing of lightening! I got up and sat in our window seat in the family room and watched big streaks of lightening up and down the valley east of us until 4:30am. It was soooooo awesome. Today we awoke to clear skies.
Peach fuzz...
After spending some time in the orchard picking yummy Suncrest peaches, we made our purchases and then headed east down Hwy 226 to Brewster Barn. Brewster Barn is 80 to 90 years old. It just opened last summer and is full of antiques and custom cowboy style furniture for sale.
This is upstairs!! And only 1/3 of the floor is in this shot.
The owner said these were for printing on walls to give the look of wallpaper? I might have to investigate this a little more.
Nice needlepoint footstool. But a little damaged, too bad.
Looking out the second floor window. This is looking West. The owner said he has 100 acres.
Fun old weight scale... (no, I didn't try it out, didn't want to break it!)
A nod to Citizen's Valley Bank, gone since the late 80's early 90's, it was bought by Key Bank. CVB was a nice little home town bank.
Metal trunk
Tabletop weaving loom
Maple syrup cans, I love me some maple!!!
We headed back to Albany, Paul to get back to work, and I needed to get busy with housework! BUT I got sidetracked into blogging.... :-)
Peaches I picked. Now u-pick costs .95 cents a pound. I have 6.5 lbs here.
And I added yet another page to my peach picking notebook, albeit homemade. Too bad Grandpa's stopped handing out their recipe and dates of harvest flyer...
Peach scented, summer love to you all,
Flojo
