Garden Times

My brother Paul, who moved to Albany from Southern California in 2006, put in a small garden this summer. Back in 1973 when my family moved to Oregon from Santa Monica, CA. our parents bought 10 acres in what felt like the wilderness to us city kids. My brother Paul took an interest in gardening when we planted a large one on our acreage. So much so, that he majored in Crop Science at OSU (yeah, I know! But go figure - he's a USC Trojan fan). He never found a job in the Crop Science field but he had also minored in Computer Science and that's where his career has been for the last 25 years or so. For 20 of those years he lived in Santa Monica, (where he moved back to after college). But now he lives here and works from home for the LA County Museum of Art, and can finally have a garden since he doesn't live in an apartment anymore!
Here are some photos of the work he's done on his backyard and some of his garden.....

This is a "before" shot of the garden area behind Paul's carport.

Standing farther back, this is an after shot of his backyard and the start of the garden behind his carport.

Raised beds where he planted Sunflowers and tomatoes and lettuce.

Next to the raised beds he built this trellis, where he has Raspberries and Blackberries growing.

Paul picking berries under the Sunflowers that were only suppose to get 5' to 6' in height! (Paul is 6' 1")

This is an "after" shot of his garden behind the carport.

Standing farther back you can see the Japanese Garden he put in his yard.

This is the gate that he and my Dad built for entering his backyard.

Another view of the double door gate....

Tomatoes I picked from his garden yesterday...

That's all for now, I hope you enjoy this!
