New Central Line......

Tomorrow Florence will be getting her new larger central line so that it can be used for stem cell harvesting. We decided to stay in Portland tonight so we wouldn't have to drive up early in the morning. Since neither of us had stayed at The Benson we decided to try it out. The customer service is top notch, the hotel is elegant. Neat place to stay and they even give OHSU patients a discount. See, having Leukemia is good for something.....

Florence is still feeling good and waiting for her white cell counts to come up enough for harvesting. In the mean time she has received 2 units of red blood cell yesterday and will be getting platelets tomorrow prior to her surgery.

The Fire Department is having a marrow drive in Florence’s name. They found a program that allows police and firefighters to test free and have agreed to kick in to test an additional 100 donors. We really thank the hard work that has go into doing this. Who knows, if Florence needs a ‘matched unrelated donor’ in the future, it may be one of us. If you are interested in becoming a registered donor and want to attend the drive, there is information earlier in this Blog.

So tomorrow Florence will start in the clinic at 0800hrs and then to pre-op at 1230 and surgery about 1400hrs (2pm). If everything goes right she should be done about 1600hrs (4pm) and then we should be home by 1800hrs (6pm).

By the way Florence’s kidney functions are back in the normal range.

Thank you all………. Larry
